Aventura played Dominican bachata the way it sounded in the Bronx, where they formed as teenagers under the name Los Tinellers. The genre's guitar figures got pulled toward R&B and hip hop, and English kept slipping into the Spanish mid-verse. Anthony "Romeo" Santos sang lead in a high, pleading tenor, Henry Santos sang alongside him, Lenny Santos wrote the guitar parts and Max Santos played bass.
"Obsesión", from We Broke the Rules (2002), spent sixteen straight weeks at number one in Italy and seven in France, which is not where a bachata single was supposed to end up. God's Project (2005) carried "La Boda", "Un Beso" and "Ella y Yo" with Don Omar, and The Last (2009) reached number five on the Billboard 200 behind "Dile al Amor" and "El Malo". They split in 2011, Romeo going solo while Lenny and Max formed Vena, then reunited in 2019 for "Inmortal" and took "Volví" with Bad Bunny to number one on Hot Latin Songs in 2021. The farewell Cerrando Ciclos tour closed in January 2025 with four stadium nights in Santo Domingo.
