Los Ángeles Azules are a Mexican cumbia group from the working class borough of Iztapalapa in Mexico City, started in 1976 by the siblings of the Mejía Avante family. What began as a family band playing block parties, weddings and quinceañeras grew into the defining sound of cumbia sonidera, a Mexican style that mixes Colombian cumbia with romantic lyrics, keyboards and brass.
Their breakthrough arrived in 1996 with the album Inolvidables and its hit "Cómo Te Voy A Olvidar", which went platinum in Argentina and turned them into one of Latin America's most beloved live acts. Decades later a new generation found them through collaborations with pop and rock singers, and the group has carried their cumbia to festival stages far outside Mexico. Their music is still a fixture at every Mexican party, proof that a good cumbia never really goes out of style.
