Não Há Estrelas No Céu Lyrics in English Rui Veloso

Below, I translated the lyrics of the song Não Há Estrelas No Céu by Rui Veloso from Portuguese to English.
Verse 1
No stars in the sky to gild my path
No matter how many friends I've got, I always feel alone
What's the point of having the house key to get in?
Having a bill in my pocket for smokes and pool?
The spring of life is lovely to live
As soon as the sun shines, right after it's raining
To me today's January, it's freezing cold
Seems the whole world teamed up to screw me
Verse 2
I spend hours in the café not knowing where to go
Everything around is so ugly, I just feel like running away
I see myself in the mirror at night, my body's always changing
In the morning I hear the advice the old man has for me
The spring of life is lovely to live
As soon as the sun shines, right after it's raining
To me today's January, it's freezing cold
Seems the whole world teamed up to screw me
Verse 3
I go around on the sly, peeking through windows
Lost on the avenues and found in the alleys
Mom, my first love was a trapeze with no net
Move aside, please, I'm between a rock and a hard place
Can't you see how tough this is? Being young isn't a title
Having to face the future with pimples on my face
Why's everything uncertain, can't it always be like this
If it wasn't for Rock and Roll, what'd become of me
The spring of life is lovely to live
As soon as the sun shines, right after it's raining
To me today's January, it's freezing cold
Seems the whole world teamed up to screw me
Outro
No stars in the sky
Stars in the sky
Stars in the sky
Stars in the sky
Stars in the sky
Stars in the sky

SONG MEANING

“Não Há Estrelas No Céu” (“There Are No Stars in the Sky”) is Rui Veloso’s heartfelt portrait of teenage restlessness. The lyrics follow a young narrator who wanders cafés, avenues, and back-alleys, pockets nearly empty and mind overflowing with questions. He feels lost in a crowd, noticing his body change, worrying about the future, and sensing that even the skies have switched off their guiding lights. In one breath he celebrates “the springtime of life,” in the next he shivers through a metaphorical January, convinced the whole world is out to get him.

Yet amid the gloom a spark remains. Rock and Roll becomes his lifeline, the loud anthem that drowns out loneliness and turns uncertainty into possibility. Veloso captures that roller-coaster phase when the sun can shine and rain can pour in the very same minute, reminding every listener that youthful confusion is universal and that music can be the compass when the stars refuse to shine.
