We learned our languages from songs. LyricFluent is the app we wish we'd had while doing it.
In school I was about to give up on German. A friend told me to try learning it from songs. I was skeptical, but I had nothing to lose.
It worked better than the textbook ever had. Lines I knew by heart turned into vocabulary and grammar I could use, and my grades went up fast. At the end of the semester my teacher picked me as the student who'd improved the most.
A few years later a job needed Spanish, so I did the same thing with Latin music. It worked again. I left that job soon after, but the music stayed, and I kept going until I could hold my own at a language exchange meetup.
The translations. The ones I found online were often wrong, slang came out as nonsense, and reading a translation in another tab only got me so far. I understood the song, but the words didn't stick. So I built LyricFluent to fix the parts that slowed me down.
If you're starting out, slower songs with simple lyrics are the easy way in. Further along, go for the fast ones full of slang. Either way, the best song to learn from is one you'd play anyway, because you'll hear it again and again without trying.
Can't find your song? Request it. Requests are how we decide what to add next.

Founder
Born in Moldova, grew up in Ireland, lived in France and works in London, so there was always a new language to learn. He studied psychology, then spent years building apps for language learners. The German and Spanish in the story above are his.

Co-founder, marketing
Born in Latin America, now in London. He ran the teaching at a language school with over a thousand students and wrote a full English course from A1 to C2. Online he's Spanish with Garcia, and if a false friend is waiting to embarrass you, he has probably made a video about it.
Pick a song you already know by heart. That's your first lesson.
