Born Maikel Cabello Negrín in San Isidro, Tenerife, Maikel Delacalle grew up on the island before a friendship with DJ Darío introduced him to the local urban music scene, pulling him out of a rough adolescence that had included time in a youth center.
He broke through in 2016 with a Spanish-language version of "Or Nah" and the single "Ganas," then signed with Universal Music in 2017. His music blends R&B, Spanish hip-hop and dancehall, and he has kept releasing new work, including the album Códigos.
