Nego do Borel, whose real name is Leno Maycon Viana Gomes, is a Brazilian singer born on July 10, 1992, in Rio de Janeiro. He grew up in Morro do Borel, a hillside community in the city's North Zone, and took his stage name from the neighborhood that shaped him.
He is one of the leading voices of funk carioca, the upbeat, bass-driven style that grew out of Rio's favelas, later blending it with pop to reach a wider audience. His 2012 debut single, "Os Caras do Momento," became a breakout hit, and he went on to sign with Sony Music and release a string of successful songs, including "Diamante de Lama" and "Bonde dos Brabos."
He has collaborated with major names across Brazilian and Latin music, teaming up with Anitta and Wesley Safadão on "Você Partiu Meu Coração" and with Colombian star Maluma on "Corazón," and he became one of the first Brazilian artists to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100.
