Vive Le Vent Lyrics in English by Elsa Esnoult

Grand-mère translates directly to "grandmother". While seemingly simple, it's a heartwarming and culturally significant word in French, especially in the context of a traditional holiday song.

In "Vive Le Vent," the mention of "bonne année grand-mère" (Happy New Year, grandmother) evokes a sense of family, tradition, and the warmth of holiday gatherings. It's a word that resonates with many, bringing to mind cherished family connections during festive times, making it both memorable and endearing.

🎶 Vive le vent is a joyful French-language winter anthem that sweeps you into a snow-covered wonderland. Elsa Esnoult paints a lively picture of icy wind whistling through tall green firs, while villagers build snowballs, ring in the New Year, and wish a heartfelt “Bonne année, grand-mère!” The catchy refrain celebrates both the wind and the season itself, turning chilly gusts into a reason to sing, laugh, and gather around crackling fires.

At the heart of the lyrics marches an old gentleman with a cane, evoking Santa Claus or perhaps a beloved grandfather. As he walks the white-blanketed road, the same wind that nips his cheeks carries a nostalgic melody he once sang as a child. The song mixes past and present: flickering candles, church bells at night, and tables set for festive feasts remind us that winter is not just cold, it is wonderfully alive with family, memories, and communal cheer. Elsa’s bright delivery invites listeners of any age to throw on a scarf, step outside, and let the swirling air fill them with holiday magic.
