Los Socios Del Ritmo have been on the road since 1962, when the Ruiz Pinzón brothers started the band in Campeche, on Mexico's Gulf coast. They began with ska, mambo and cha-cha-chá, and their first album was called simply Ska. Cumbia and romantic ballads took over later, played by a big line-up of saxophones, percussion, guitars and keyboards that is still the group's sound.
"Vamos a platicar" made them a national name in 1970, and Alfonso Cuarón put it on the soundtrack of Roma in 2018. Their 1983 album ¡Y ahora! Conniff brought a Grammy nomination in the tropical Latin category. The biggest seller came much later: "Llorar", from 1999, which went to the top of the charts in Mexico and is still the song most people know them for. Amor de Internet followed in 2002, and in 2020 they recut Ricky Martin's "Te Extraño, Te Olvido, Te Amo" as a cumbia with Chiquis Rivera on vocals.
