Joan Sebastian opens by laying out the whole affair in three lines: "Te miré llegar" ("I watched you arrive"), "Y te dejaste amar" ("and you let yourself be loved"), "Y ahora resulta que te vas" ("and now it turns out you're leaving"). Arrival, surrender and departure, with no reason given for any of the three. He does not ask for one.
What he does instead is settle the account in her favour. "Me hiciste un favor" ("you did me a favour") is meant straight, not bitterly: the happiness was real and he keeps it, while the bill that arrived afterwards is his alone — "Y ahora me heredas el dolor" ("and now you leave me the pain"), grief handed over like an inheritance rather than a wound. So he thanks her, "Y te lo agradezco en vez de reprochar" ("and I thank you instead of reproaching you"), and only then admits the cost: "Aunque hoy me inunde de llorar" ("though today I'm flooded with crying"). The chorus never resolves that, it just repeats the verb — llorar, to cry — over a banda arrangement bright enough to dance to, which is where much of the song's ache actually sits.
