Sans Moi Lyrics in English Kery James

Below, I translated the lyrics of the song Sans Moi by Kery James from French to English.
There'll always be someone stronger
There'll always be someone richer
What's the point of keeping score in a game
Where everybody cheats?
Is it about looking like everybody
Except ourselves
Making yourself tiny in front of the banker
Begging for a loan for every problem
You aren't free when you're far from yourself
I don't wanna feel like a prisoner anymore
Of everything other people believe
Be free, be free
We don't have all the time for that
If happiness is shining, then it'll be without me
Without me, without me, without me
Then it'll be without me
Without me
Without me
Without me
Then it'll be without me
Tell me, are we more comfortable in our skin
In stuff that costs 500 euros
There'll always be someone better looking, bro
In the newest Lambo
Since we have to sell ourselves
Since we have to give in
Since we have to grab it all
I'm not of this world
We aren't free just because we believe it
You'd always have to be first
You'd always have to be good enough
Free, while they force their choices on us
If happiness is consuming, then it'll be without me
Without me, without me, without me
Then it'll be without me
Without me
Without me
Without me
Then it'll be without me

SONG MEANING

Sans Moi is Kery James’ spirited refusal to play a game he believes is rigged from the start. Over a pulsing beat, the French wordsmith points out that there will always be someone stronger, richer, or flashier, so why chase empty trophies? Instead of shrinking before bankers or begging for credit, he calls listeners to question a society that measures happiness in luxury brands, sports-car selfies, and never-ending competition.

The chorus ‟Alors ce sera sans moi” (Then it will be without me) is a rallying cry for true freedom: the freedom to opt out. James rejects the pressure to consume, conform, and constantly compare, reminding us that real liberation begins when we stop letting others define our worth. If success means losing yourself in materialism, he’d rather watch from the sidelines—proudly, defiantly, and authentically himself.
