Con El Agua Hasta El Cuello Lyrics in English by La Zenda Norteña
Cuello literally translates to "neck." While it's a common word, its use in the phrase "hasta el cuello" (up to the neck) is particularly interesting and idiomatic in Spanish.
In the song, the phrase "con el agua hasta el cuello" means to be in a very difficult or desperate situation, overwhelmed by problems, much like being submerged in water up to your neck. This vivid imagery makes the word memorable and highlights a common Spanish idiom.
Have you ever had that friend who only calls when they need something? La Zenda Norteña totally gets it in "Con El Agua Hasta El Cuello"! This song is a blunt message to someone who keeps disappearing and then popping back up when things get tough. The singer is basically saying, "You keep losing me, then you come back looking for me" (cada rato que me andas perdiendo y vuelve de nuevo a buscarme la cara).
It's pretty clear this person only comes around for help, especially when they're in deep trouble, or as the song puts it, "up to their neck in water" (el día en que te des con el agua hasta el cuello). The singer is done with it, making it clear that the "door is closed" (hoy se encuentra puerta cerrada) to this fair-weather friend. It's a relatable feeling of being used and finally standing your ground!
