Pomplamoose is an American indie pop duo from Northern California, formed in 2008 by Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn while they were students at Stanford. They built their audience on YouTube with what Conte called VideoSongs, home recordings made under two strict rules: nothing is ever lip synced, and every sound you hear is a sound you also see being played.
The pair have stayed fiercely independent, releasing their music themselves with no record label, and Conte went on to co-found the artist funding platform Patreon. Nataly Dawn spent her childhood in central France and Belgium and later studied French literature, which is why the duo's catalogue is dotted with French covers, including their 2021 all-French album Impossible à Prononcer. This track is their reading of Georges Brassens, the great French singer songwriter whose 1956 original is one of the most loved songs in the chanson repertoire.
