GRUPO MOJADO

Grupo Mojado is a Mexican band from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, the border city across the river from Brownsville, Texas. The group came together in the early 1990s and set out from the start to blend grupero romance with pop and cumbia, the dance-floor rhythm that ran through so much Mexican regional music of that decade.

Their breakthrough came with the album La Gorda (1992), which carried "Te Felicito", a heartbreak ballad written by Felipe Barrientos that Laura Flores and Jessica Cristina both later covered. Through the 1990s their albums kept landing in the Top 25 of the Regional Mexican charts, with Sueño y Realidad (1996) a turning point, and they toured Mexico, the United States and much of Latin America on the strength of those love songs.
