Sayf writes this one from inside a kid's head. Dad is somewhere else, working, and the song keeps circling the same small ache: "'È domenica, papà', però papà c'ha da fare" ("It's Sunday, Dad", but Dad has things to do), with "E la mamma è tutto il giorno a lavorare" (And Mum is out working all day long) right behind it. The boy fills the gap the way kids do, by copying the adults. He learns the stereo, he learns "A mettere le sillabe col tempo" (To put the syllables in time), and he works the bar like a small charmer: "Sono la stella del bar, modo di fare ammiccante" (I'm the star of the bar, with a flirty way about me).
"Nennè" is southern Italian for little one, and he uses it on a girl, on himself, on the whole arrangement: "Nennè, una notte e poi più niente" (Little one, one night and then nothing more), then "Si spegne come le stelle" (It goes out like the stars). He has already decided to leave before he can be left, and "Non so far l'amore, so scappare via" (I don't know how to make love, I know how to run away) says it flatly. The bridge drops the act: "Abbracciami forte, stai qua" (Hold me tight, stay here). Then the title, over and over, "Papà, buona domenica" (Dad, have a good Sunday), which is a small polite thing to say to somebody who isn't there.
