Danilo Oliveira Lellis grew up in Goiânia, the beating heart of Brazil's sertanejo scene, but he didn't stick to the genre's usual accordion-and-guitar sound. He built his own style instead, mixing trap and rap into sertanejo storytelling, and gave it a name: trapnejo.
The songs he built that way took off. "Sexta-Feira" with Grupo Pacificadores has racked up tens of millions of views, and "Open Bar," "Amor Bandido" and "Bagaceira" with Lucas Lucco kept the run going. He writes as much as he performs, too, penning songs for Gusttavo Lima, Henrique & Juliano and Zé Neto & Cristiano, and he now runs his own label, Máfia Records.
