Change De Pote Lyrics in English Casseurs Flowters

Below, I translated the lyrics of the song Change De Pote by Casseurs Flowters from French to English.
Hang with millionaires, you might catch millions
Hang with bums, you might catch lice
Every day my girl gets on my nerves with that kind of saying
I'm gonna end up living with my buddy, end of story
Pause
My girl told me
'I can't stand your buddy anymore
If you keep seeing him, you’ll end up alone
I don't trust him
Because he's on welfare
But he wants everyone to think he runs Google
Every time he talks
It's to spout sh*t
Or to get attention, the guy’s just a drag
He's just a pervert
He always hits on my girlfriends
He told them nasty stuff, now they're scared'
My girl told me
'If you merged, you might make one neuron
I'm fed up, your jokes bore me
You two are a couple
I wonder if it turns him on or makes him jealous when he stares at my ass
I'm sick of it
You text him
'Guillaume, this is the last time we have dinner one-on-one'
What do I have to do
For us to hang out together, huh
Scratch my balls, go out wearing a cap
'Change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy
You'll never get anywhere if you hang with that guy'
'Change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy'
My girl told me to change friend 'cause he drags me down
My girl told me
'Your buddy's really too dumb
He brings his sl*ts to your place, tell him to stop
He's just a black hole
I see him leave with your clothes
And, weirdly, I never see him come back with them
You take punches
Because he attracts trouble, every time sh*t hits the fan
He owns up to nothing
When he shows up
It's to do a load of laundry or watch stuff on cable'
My girl told me
'Your buddy's really a redneck
Every time he bumps into my mom, he calls her 'Miss'
He sings all the time
Problem is, he sucks, but he's sure he’s got Pharrell's voice
He's a klepto
Last time I came home
He had both hands buried in my Chanel bag
He cheats on his girl
When you two hang out, tell me why I shouldn’t think you do the same'
Change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy
You'll never go anywhere if you hang with that guy
Change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy'
My girl told me to change friend 'cause he drags me down
Hang with millionaires, you might catch millions
Hang with bums, you might catch lice'
Every day my girl gets on my nerves with that kind of saying
I'm gonna end up living with my buddy, end of story
Hang with millionaires, you might catch millions
Hang with bums, you might catch lice'
Every day my girl gets on my nerves with that kind of saying
I'm gonna end up living with my buddy, end of story
I answered
'Get lost if you're not happy, you know how it'll end if you ask for too much
Who do you think you are
All your friends are sh*t, even you don't really like them, you talk behind their backs'
Hey, whatever, you so didn't say that, huh'
Actually, I said
'Baby, you can't leave me, you know I'll always put our love before him
You're my other half
I'll never share you again, tonight's the last time, doll, I swear'
Change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy
You'll never go anywhere if you hang with that guy
Change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy, change your buddy'
My girl told me to change friend 'cause he drags me down

SONG MEANING

Change De Pote is a tongue-in-cheek rap dialogue where the narrator is squeezed between two powerful forces: his ride-or-die buddy and his fed-up girlfriend. Throughout the verses, the girlfriend bombards him with the French proverb “Traîne avec des millionnaires, t'as des chances d'attraper des millions; traîne avec des pouilleux, t'as des chances d'attraper des poux” – in other words, you become the company you keep. She paints the friend as the worst influence imaginable:

  • Jobless yet bragging he runs Google
  • A shameless flirt who creeps on her friends
  • A moocher who steals clothes, hogs the TV and never takes responsibility when fights break out Her verdict rings out in the hook: “Change de pote !” (“Drop that friend!”).

Behind the comedy, Casseurs Flowters poke at a universal dilemma: loyalty versus social climbing, authenticity versus image. The girlfriend’s mantra reflects a society obsessed with status, while the narrator’s half-hearted resistance shows how hard it is to cut ties with someone who shares your history and jokes. The song’s punchlines keep things light, yet the repeated chorus leaves an open question: Should we ditch people who hold us back, or stay true to the friendships that made us who we are?
