Bárbara Bandeira is done with someone who only ever pretended. The song opens with a blunt question, "És verdadeiro ou não és?" (Are you genuine or not?), and then treats the ex's apology like a stage show: "Fim de cena, fim de ato / Uma vénia, um aplauso" (End of scene, end of act / A bow, some applause). His fake regret is so convincing she admits she might have gone back, if she didn't already know how it ends. And the best put-down: "Hoje nem vale o rímel" (Today it's not even worth the mascara), meaning he is no longer worth crying over.
The chorus is pure relief: "Ainda bem que o teu adeus não me faz mal" (Good thing your goodbye doesn't hurt me). Going back to him would just be "déja vu", a French phrase Portuguese uses as is, and his love "só vale no final" (only counts at the end). Learner tip: "Tão, vai só, vai" is short for "Então, vai só, vai" (So go on, just go), and "Menos é demais" twists the saying "less is more" into "less (of you) is plenty". The bridge, "Menos de ti, mais de prazer" (Less of you, more pleasure), is a cheeky little victory lap.
