Kabylifornie Lyrics in English Bagarre

Below, I translated the lyrics of the song Kabylifornie by Bagarre from French to English.
Let me introduce myself, my name’s Mus and I live here
You wouldn't think so, but I come from Kabylifornia
Yeah, my dad speaks perfect French and I speak almost English
Yeah, my mom’s proud of me and of JSK
I remember when I was little, school done, backpack tossed
I hop on my board to skate all summer
When my mom yells from the window, “Mustapha
Come pack your bag, babe, ’cause tomorrow we’re off to the bled”
And then I raise my glass and my middle finger
To the future, the past, to Paris, to Algiers
To those who love me or not, to those who are like me
Mustapha, that’s me, so dig me, so
Dig me, dig me, dig me
Dig me, dig me, dig me
Dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled yeah, that’s me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled starf’allah
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled yeah, that’s me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled, dig me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled yeah, that’s me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled starf’allah
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled yeah, that’s me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled, dig me
Let me introduce myself, my name’s Mus, don’t be surprised
Undercover like a rocker I’m telling you my life
I’m a skater, I’m Parabellum and I live at night
I’ll always be whisky-loukoum-Kabylifornia
Curial Projects or Tizi, butter croissant or chaâbi
Between the two, an ollie, Paris-Algiers-Tizi
Curial Projects or Tizi, butter croissant or chaâbi
Like a pogo I live my life
Long live Kabylifornia
Yeah, I know, one day I’ll be like you, I’ll be part of your life
Yeah, I know, one day I’ll be like you, I’ll be part of your life
Dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me
Dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled yeah, that’s me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled starf’allah
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled yeah, that’s me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled, dig me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled yeah, that’s me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled starf’allah
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled yeah, that’s me
I dig skating, I dig rock, I dig the bled
And then I raise my glass and my middle finger
To the future, the past, to Paris, to Algiers
To those who love me or not, to those who are like me
Mustapha, that’s me, so dig me
And then I raise my glass and my middle finger
To the future, the past, to Paris, to Algiers
To those who love me or not, to those who are like me
Mustapha, that’s me, so dig me, so
Outro
Dig me, dig me, dig me
Dig me, dig me, dig me
Dig me, dig me, dig me
Dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me, dig me

SONG MEANING

Kabylifornie is a high-energy self-portrait where Bagarre’s narrator, Mustapha (or “Mus”), turns his mixed roots into a personal superpower. He glides from the housing projects of Paris to the mountains of Kabylie on a skateboard, blasting rock music while munching loukoum. Switching between French, almost-English, and bits of Arabic, he proudly toasts “Paris, Alger, le futur et le passé.” The invented word “Kabylifornie” fuses Kabylie and California to create a dreamland where North-African heritage, Western pop culture and urban skate vibes can all coexist on the same half-pipe.

Underneath the playful chant “Kiffez-moi” (“love me, vibe with me”) lies a manifesto: embrace every facet of who you are, no matter how contradictory it seems. The song smashes stereotypes about immigrants and rockers alike, celebrating dual identity, youthful rebellion and the joy of carving your own lane. Raise your glass, lift your middle finger to narrow labels, and skate into a world where baguettes meet chaâbi riffs and nothing is off-limits.
