Dominique Lyrics in English by Anouk
Sloeries is a Dutch slang term, roughly translating to "sluts" or "loose women". It's a rather provocative and informal word.
In the song, Anouk uses this term to dismiss other women who she feels are trying to get close to her love interest, Dominique. She sings, "Kijk die sloeries eens brallen" (Look at those sloeries bragging), highlighting her jealousy and contempt for them. This word adds a raw, edgy, and very direct tone to her expression of love and possessiveness.
Dominique is a bold love confession wrapped in a rock-soul groove. The singer starts in a steamy, vulnerable moment and immediately admits that her plan to stay carefree and single has crashed the minute Dominique smiles at her. She is head-over-heels, but that rush of feelings comes with a sharp sting of jealousy; every time she sees Dominique with “other girls”, it feels like heartbreak in real time. The lyrics move between playful swagger and raw honesty, capturing that whirlwind stage when desire, insecurity and hope all fight for attention.
By the chorus, Anouk’s voice turns into an urgent plea: Tell me where we stand, Dominique! She has miles of experience in love, yet this connection feels electrifyingly new. In the end she declares that no one else can love him the way she does and seals it with a fierce “Ik hou van jou” (I love you). The song is both a celebration of unexpected passion and a fearless demand for reciprocity, making it an anthem for anyone who dives into love even when it scares them.
