Traições is the plural form of traição, meaning "betrayal". It's a powerful and evocative word that instantly signals drama and complex emotions.
In the song, Jão sings, "Saiba, traições são bem mais sutis" (Know that betrayals are much more subtle). He uses this word to suggest a quiet, more insidious kind of infidelity, making you curious to uncover the full story behind the heartbreak.
Jão strips away every polite excuse in "Eu Posso Ser Como Você", turning what sounds like an apology into a cold confession. At first, he tried labeling his infidelity as payback: "Chamei de vingança, troco, raiva" ("I called it revenge, payback, anger"). In Brazilian Portuguese, troco literally means the pocket change you get back after buying something, but here it acts as a sharp idiom for returning bad behavior tit-for-tat. By the chorus, he drops even that defense. He admits he stepped out simply because temptation knocked and he felt like answering: "No fim, a verdade é que / Eu fiz porque eu quis / Eu fiz porque eu podia" ("In the end, the truth is that / I did it because I wanted to / I did it because I could").
Instead of groveling, he ends up wishing he had gone even further. He looks back and snaps, "Me desculpei quando não deveria / [...] Eu deveria ter feito mais" ("I apologized when I shouldn't have / [...] I should have done more"). It is a wicked twist on relationship guilt. He reminds his partner that silent slights hurt just as much ("traições são bem mais sutis" ["betrayals are much more subtle"]), so matching their coldness became his only way to avoid fading away: "Que, senão, eu sumiria" ("Because, if not, I would disappear"). Jão is the stage name of João Vitor Romania Balbino, a pop singer and songwriter born in 1994 in Américo Brasiliense, a small town in the interior of São Paulo state. He started out posting covers on YouTube in 2016, the videos caught the attention of producers Pedro Dash and Marcelinho Ferraz, and his first single, "Dança pra Mim", came out at the end of that year.
