Letty is Letizia Aguilar Vargas, a Costa Rican singer who performs as Letty Lioness and bills herself as "La Leona" on her own tracks. She was fifteen when she auditioned for the TV talent show Nace una Estrella and put the clip on TikTok, and the clip travelled a great deal further than the show did.
She works independently, writing and producing her own material, and she sits in dancehall and Latin urbano rather than straight reggaeton. What marks the songs as hers is the vocabulary: she keeps Costa Rican words like "mae" and "güila" in the lyrics instead of sanding them down into a pan regional accent, on the argument that tico slang can travel as far as anyone else's.
