s'enlisegets bogged down

S'enliser means to get bogged down, stuck in mud, or to sink. It's a vivid and somewhat uncommon verb that paints a clear picture of being trapped or unable to progress.

In the song, the artist sings, "Surtout pas que je m'enlise dans mes rêves" (Especially not that I get bogged down in my dreams). This line reveals a fear of being consumed by unrealistic aspirations, highlighting the struggle between dreams and reality. It's a powerful way to express the danger of getting lost in one's own fantasies.

Pierre de Maere’s “Menteur” feels like a late-night confession booth set to music. The Belgian singer opens his heart to his mother, admitting that he lies, cheats a little, and sinks into fantasies that pain them both. Behind the catchy melody is a tug-of-war between reality and daydreams: he wants to stay realistic, but dazzling visions of fame keep circling back stronger than before. Every time he falls, Mom is there with calm advice—life is what it is, there is no use in endless lamenting—then offers him one more slow, reassuring dance.

At its core, the song is a love letter wrapped in guilt and hope. Pierre pictures himself as a future “superstar” who might break his own dreams and return home bruised. Even then, he imagines the same warm embrace and gentle guidance. “Menteur” captures the bittersweet loop of growing up: chasing big ambitions, stumbling over self-deception, yet always craving the safety of a parent’s arms. It is tender, playful, and a little tragic—an anthem for anyone who has ever promised the world, doubted themselves, and still believed that home would welcome them back.

Pierre de Maere is a Belgian singer-songwriter born in 2001 in Uccle, near Brussels. Entirely self-taught, he started writing songs on GarageBand as a kid and built his sound without ever taking a formal music lesson.

His breakthrough single, "Un jour, je marierai un ange," became a huge hit across the French-speaking world, climbing the charts in Belgium and France and eventually earning a diamond certification. That success won him the Belgian Revelation of the Year award at the NRJ Music Awards and, in 2023, the Victoire de la Musique for Male Revelation of the Year.

"Mercredi" appears on his debut album, Regarde-moi, released in 2023, and captures his knack for turning dreamy, theatrical melodrama into catchy French pop. Openly gay, de Maere has become one of the most striking new voices in Belgian music, known for his flamboyant style both on stage and off.
