Melendi paints a witty yet bittersweet picture of a woman who chooses glitter over gold - or rather, euros over genuine affection. Through playful metaphors like a window facing a dull courtyard that can outshine one on a fancy street, he reminds her that true value is found in small, heartfelt details. The singer contrasts their worlds: she counts coins, diets on salad, and stars in an imaginary movie of grandeur, while he munches on red meat and drifts with the tide of life. His verdict? Her “cheque al portamor” - a check written to love itself - will bounce the moment beauty fades and shallow thrills run dry.
Beneath the sarcasm lies a lesson about choosing substance over surface. Melendi warns that money, status, and cosmetic fixes are temporary; when the high life collapses, emptiness follows. He invites listeners to laugh at the irony, feel the sting of the truth, and remember that turning down real love for hollow luxury is the costliest rejection of all.
Melendi (Ramón Melendi Espina) is a Spanish singer and songwriter from Oviedo whose sound blends pop, rumba, and pop rock. He broke through with his debut album Sin noticias de Holanda in 2003, and his single "Con la luna llena" became the official theme of the 2004 Vuelta a España.
His catalog mixes catchy hooks with heartfelt, streetwise storytelling, including the Real Oviedo anthem "Volveremos." He has also appeared as a coach on La Voz Kids in Mexico. In 2025 he celebrated two decades on stage with the "20 años sin noticias" tour, drawing huge crowds across Spain.
