festlegento commit / to determine

Festlegen is a German separable verb that means 'to commit', 'to determine', or 'to fix'. It's a more nuanced word than simple verbs and often implies making a firm decision or promise.

In the song, the line "Ich leg' mich wieder mal nicht fest" (I don't commit myself again) perfectly captures the narrator's emotional struggle. While their partner is deeply invested, the narrator admits to an inability to fully commit, highlighting the central theme of unequal feelings and the difficulty of defining the relationship.

Halb So Viel paints a bittersweet picture of a couple whose love scales are tipped. LEA, the Australian singer–songwriter, lists all the caring gestures her partner makes: giving her a spare key in March, ringing her doorbell out of politeness, introducing her to his parents, even planning their winter trips. Meanwhile, she can only match that devotion halfway. She knows his friends by heart, but he barely knows the names of hers; he keeps her in his heart while she only holds him in her arms. The chorus repeats her secret wish: “Es wär so schön, wenn ich das Gleiche fühle”“It would be so nice if I felt the same.” Ultimately, the song explores the quiet guilt of loving someone just half as much as they love you.

Instead of pointing fingers, LEA invites listeners to step inside the gentle tension between affection and honesty. The upbeat pop sound masks a vulnerable confession: sometimes our hearts refuse to sync, no matter how hard we try. By the final refrain, the message rings clear: acknowledging mismatched feelings is painful, yet pretending would hurt even more. This track is a melodic reminder that real love also means admitting when you do not feel the same intensity.

LEA (born Lea-Marie Becker) is a German singer-songwriter from Kassel, known for her warm, piano-driven pop and her honest, diary-like lyrics. She grew up in a musical home, started playing piano at six, and was writing her own songs by the age of eleven, before studying music in Hannover and playing the city's bars at night.

Her breakthrough came in 2016, when she toured as a backing singer for Mark Forster and released her debut album Vakuum. She has since become one of Germany's most-streamed pop artists, and Zu Dir, co-written with Mark Forster and released on her 2019 album Zwischen den Zeilen, is one of her best-loved songs. LEA has been based in Berlin since 2018.
