imbiancata — whitewashed

Imbiancata literally means "whitewashed" or "painted white." It's an interesting word because it evokes a sense of renewal and freshness, often associated with preparing a space for a new beginning.

In the song, it's used metaphorically to describe love as a "second home" that is "imbiancata nei giorni di ferie" (whitewashed on vacation days). This imagery suggests that love is a place of peace and rejuvenation, where one can escape the daily grind and find solace, much like a freshly painted vacation home.

Gigi Finizio's "Pezzo Dopo Pezzo," which means "Piece by Piece," tells a powerful story of trying to rebuild a life after a painful breakup. The singer feels like a builder, using his own hands to construct something new, while his former partner was a demolisher, wanting to tear everything down. He describes this slow, difficult process: "Pezzo dopo pezzo / Giorno dopo giorno" (Piece by piece / Day by day).

Despite the heartbreak, the song is filled with a determined hope. The singer fights against loneliness, insisting, "E non è vero che sarò da solo" (And it's not true that I will be alone). He compares love to a beautiful second home, a place of rest and comfort. Even though he's haunted by memories of a partner who left with a casual "superficialità" (superficiality), he holds onto his ability to build, walk, and smile, believing he can find his way forward and perhaps even find love again.
