SONG MEANING

Monsieur Le Président is Gauvin Sers’s spirited open letter to France’s head of state, echoing the protest anthems of Boris Vian and Renaud. Over a bright folk melody, the singer politely addresses the president while firing off sharp observations: the streets roar with demonstrations, hospitals and schools are on life-support, workers lose hope, and the planet itself is burning. By alternating deference (“Monsieur”) with biting anger, Sers breathes new life into the proud French tradition of the chanson engagée—songs that jolt leaders awake and rally everyday people to action.

At its heart, the track is a plea for empathy. Sers urges the president to step down from the “top of the ladder,” hear the cries of nurses, teachers, artisans, and see that laws written in marble often crush those they are meant to protect. Rather than declaring war, the songwriter fights “the absurdity of mankind” with a single sheet of A4 and a guitar, reminding listeners that resistance can be melodic, poetic, and full of love. The result is an engaging call to protect social justice, human dignity, and the fragile Earth we all share—proof that one passionate voice can still shake the corridors of power.
