I was barely seventeen when I crossed the border
I promised that to my dear old mom, to lift her out of poverty
The cold nights burned me
I almost drowned in the river
And to those who suffered the same I dedicate this corrido
I'm one of so many Mexicans that works day after day
To give a future to my kids and help my family
How I miss my dear ranch
My friends that I don't forget
And my old folks that I haven't seen for several years
They think that because I jumped the line I'm a drug trafficker
Enough of a thousand humiliations just for being an immigrant!
I'm singing for all my people
Don't forget it, keep it in mind
That those that they didn't want today they make presidents
And even if it hurts them a lot, we're the majority
The work here has been very hard but I've never backed down
And the things I've achieved, I've earned with effort
And the one who went to the other side
And left his past in his country
Who would have thought of that little boy
And look at what he's achieved
They've promised us so many things and they've given us nothing
Equality, respect, and tolerance is what my people ask for
I'm singing for all my people
Don't forget it, keep it in mind
And those that they didn't want today they make presidents
