Alexandre Pires is a Brazilian singer born in 1976 in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais. As a teenager he co-founded the pagode group So Pra Contrariar with his brother and cousin, and became its lead voice through the 1990s as the band grew into one of Brazil's best-selling acts, even scoring a hit in Spanish with Gloria Estefan.
In 2001 Pires launched a solo career blending pagode and Brazilian pop with Spanish-language ballads, winning fans across Latin America alongside his home audience. In recent years he has also recorded gospel and faith-inspired songs, and "O Maestro Maior" is a live recording of one of them, featuring fellow Brazilian singer Tiee.
