Unendlichkeit translates directly to "infinity" or "endlessness". It's a beautiful and evocative German word that captures a sense of vastness and timelessness.
In "1000 Meere," Tokio Hotel uses this word to convey the immense journey and challenges the protagonists face. The line "Noch tausendmal durch die Unendlichkeit" (A thousand more times through infinity) emphasizes the enduring nature of their struggle and their hope for eventual freedom, making it a powerful and memorable concept within the song.
This song paints a world that feels completely frozen and empty. The singer describes it with lines like "Die Straßen leer" (The streets are empty) and "die Sonne ist erfroren" (the sun has frozen). He's lost and alone, but he's holding on to the memory of someone special, saying "Dein Bild ist sicher, ich trag's in mir" (Your picture is safe, I carry it inside me).
The whole song is a promise to cross any distance to get back to this person. The journey sounds impossible, described as being "tausend Meere weit" (a thousand seas far) and through "tausend dunkle Jahre ohne Zeit" (a thousand dark years without time). It's a powerful declaration of love and endurance, a plea to the other person to keep faith because one day, after this epic journey, "Dann sind wir endlich frei" (Then we will finally be free).
