desconectados — Disconnected

Desconectados means “disconnected” or “out of touch.” In the song, it describes two people who are physically together under the same roof but have become emotionally distant, making the word especially vivid and memorable.

Taburete’s “Tan Desconectados” describes a relationship that has gone strangely quiet while both people are still sharing the same room, and apparently the same apartment. The narrator notices that ordinary things feel wrong: “Hasta parece que la sal no sala” [It even seems that salt does not make things salty], and “que la nevera se siente caliente” [that the refrigerator feels hot]. These impossible details make the distance between them feel so strong that even the room’s basic rules seem to have changed. The repeated line “Terminamos tan desconectados” [We ended up so disconnected] means they are emotionally out of touch, not that they have lost an internet connection.

The most painful part is that neither person fully leaves. “No te vas, pero siento que no te has quedado” [You do not leave, but I feel you have not stayed] describes someone who is physically present but no longer truly involved. The narrator admits, “Si no me voy es porque yo no me atrevo” [If I do not leave, it is because I do not dare], so fear keeps the relationship in place. Meanwhile, the apartment is filled with old photographs: “Solo quedan los que están en foto” [Only the ones in photos remain]. The final image, “dos extraños bajo el mismo techo” [two strangers under the same roof], is blunt and memorable: they live together, yet their shared home now feels like a place occupied by strangers.
