dor — longing / yearning

Dor is a unique Romanian word that doesn't have a direct, single-word translation in English. It encapsulates a deep sense of longing, yearning, or nostalgia for something or someone absent.

In the context of the song, the title itself, "Să-ți se facă dor," means "May you miss me" or "May you long for me." The singer hopes that her former lover will feel this profound sense of missing her and return, making it a central and emotionally charged word in the lyrics.

Stefania builds the whole song out of a promise her mother made her. "Mi-a povestit până și mama când eram mică de tine" (Even my mother told me about you when I was little) sets up a fairy tale: a boy assembled to order, eyes that would carry her up to the stars and let her pick one of them. Then the other half of the sentence lands. Nobody warned her he would take her heart with him when he left.

What makes the second verse sting is how reasonable she sounds. "Și recunosc că nu-ți stă rău cu altă fată" (And I admit you do not look bad with another girl) is a compliment she plainly does not want to pay, and "Păcat că fără mine ești fericit" (What a shame that you are happy without me) is about as polite as spite gets. The hook is the only thing she has left to bargain with: "Dacă n-o să te mai văd ia cu tine piesa asta" (If I never see you again take this song with you), hoping the song does the remembering for him.
