antojos — cravings / whims

Antojos literally translates to "cravings," like a sudden urge for a specific food. However, it can also mean "whims" or passing fancies.

In the song, Shakira uses it with a sharp, emotional edge, singing, "Me tratas como una mĂĄs de tus antojos" (You treat me like just another one of your whims). She's accusing her ex-partner of treating her not as a person to be loved, but as a fleeting desire to be satisfied and then discarded. It's a powerful word that perfectly captures the feeling of being used.

Colombian superstar Shakira teams up with Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro for "Te Felicito", an electro-pop track that takes petty sarcasm to an art form. The title means "I congratulate you," but Shakira is not handing out genuine praise. Instead, she mocks an ex who faked sincerity throughout their whole relationship: "Te felicito, quĂ© bien actĂșas / De eso no me cabe duda / Con tu papel continĂșa / Te queda bien ese show" ("I congratulate you, how well you act / Of that I have no doubt / Continue with your role / That show suits you"). She even jokes that the performance was so convincing they deserve a real-life Oscar ("Te deberĂan dar un Oscar, lo has hecho tan bien").

Beyond the theatrical burns, the song is packed with great everyday idioms. Shakira kicks things off with the ultimate metaphor for sacrificing yourself for the wrong person: "Por completarte me rompí en pedazos" ("To complete you, I broke myself into pieces"). When the deception finally piles up, she says it was "la gota que rebasó el vaso" (literally "the drop that overflowed the glass," which is the Spanish equivalent of "the straw that broke the camel's back"). She also sings "Yo que ponía las manos al fuego por ti" ("I, who would put my hands in the fire for you"), a vivid way to say she trusted them completely. Rauw Alejandro adds to the drama, boldly admitting that he left his ex unblocked on social media on purpose so they can watch him move on with someone else in a luxury car ("No te bloqueé de las redes para que veas la otra en la Mercedes").

Shakira signed to Sony Music Colombia at thirteen, and her debut album Magia sold about 1,200 copies in Colombia. Born in Barranquilla in 1977 to a family of Lebanese, Catalan and Colombian descent, she was belly dancing by four, after hearing Arabic drumming at a Middle Eastern restaurant near home, and she has written or co-written most of what she records.

The breakthrough came with Pies Descalzos (1995) and its single "Estoy Aquí", and ¿Dónde Están los Ladrones? (1998) followed with "Ciega, Sordomuda" and "Ojos Así". She moved into English on Laundry Service (2001), whose "Whenever, Wherever" was released in Spanish as "Suerte", then topped the US Hot 100 in 2006 with "Hips Don’t Lie", featuring Wyclef Jean. "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)", recorded with the South African band Freshlyground, was the official song of the 2010 World Cup. Her 2023 session with Argentine producer Bizarrap won Latin Grammy Song of the Year, and Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran took Best Latin Pop Album at the 2025 Grammys, her fourth Grammy next to fifteen Latin Grammys.
