Titten is a colloquial and somewhat crude German word for "breasts" or "tits." While it might seem provocative, it's a very memorable and central word in this Rammstein song.
In the context of the song, the narrator is explicitly stating his desire for a woman with "dicke Titten" (big tits), making it a key, if not the key, theme of the lyrics. Its directness and prominence make it an unforgettable word for learners.
This song tells the story of a lonely man whose life has become dull and gray. He feels like he's losing his mind and his hair, and his only comfort comes from his small dogs. He desperately wants to find a female partner to share his life with.
However, his list of requirements for this partner is surprisingly simple and specific. He states that he's not picky at all. She doesn't need to be beautiful, smart, or rich. In fact, he doesn't even need her to kiss him or feed him grapes. The narrator's one and only request, which he repeats throughout the song, is that she must have "dicke Titten," or big breasts. The song uses this humorous and blunt desire to paint a satirical picture of a lonely man's priorities.
Six men from East Germany who have never swapped a member: Rammstein came together in Berlin in 1994 with Till Lindemann singing, Richard Kruspe and Paul Landers on guitars, Oliver Riedel on bass, Christoph Schneider on drums and Christian "Flake" Lorenz on keyboards. Landers, Lorenz and Schneider came out of the East Berlin punk band Feeling B. Their debut Herzeleid (1995) pushed the German music press into coining a genre name for it, Neue Deutsche Härte.
They sing in German, roll every R, and set fire to a good deal of the stage. Sehnsucht (1997) carried "Du hast" and "Engel" abroad and every album since has gone to number one in Germany, among them Mutter, Reise, Reise and Zeit (2022), while "Sonne", "Ich will", "Amerika" and the 2019 chart topper "Deutschland" fill out the setlist. Germany's youth media board put Liebe ist für alle da on its restricted index in 2009 over the track "Ich tu dir weh"; a Cologne court overturned that in 2010. Their stadium tour ended in Gelsenkirchen in July 2024 after 135 shows, and they have not been back on the road since.
