Zorn — Wrath / Rage

Zorn is a powerful German word for "wrath" or "rage," a much more intense feeling than the more common word for anger, Wut. It's a fantastic word to add to your emotional vocabulary.

This word is the heart of the song's title, "Zorn & Liebe" (Wrath & Love). This dramatic pairing perfectly captures the turmoil of a passionate relationship that swings between intense love and destructive rage, a central theme you'll hear throughout the lyrics.

This song describes a relationship that's both passionate and totally destructive. Provinz and Nina Chuba sing about a love that's so intense it feels like it will never end, but for all the wrong reasons. They toast to their own misery with lines like, "Kipp unsre Tränen auf Eis, ein Hoch auf uns zwei" (Pour our tears on ice, a toast to the two of us), sarcastically wishing for their pain to last forever. The whole thing is a mess of contradictions: one person is freezing cold while the other is burning with passion, as they sing, "Ich friere ein, du brennst mich aus" (I freeze, you burn me out).

They remember the intense start of their connection, "Seit dem ersten Mal in deinem Wagen" (Since the first time in your car), but now they're just lost and fighting. The core of the song is in the hook: "Unser Zorn, unsre Liebe / Wird nie vergeh'n" (Our anger, our love / Will never fade). It suggests that for this couple, the anger and the love are the exact same thing, locked together in a cycle they can't escape.

Provinz are a German indie-pop band from Vogt, a small town near Ravensburg in southern Germany. Founded in 2017, the group is led by cousins Vincent Waizenegger on vocals and guitar and Robin Schmid on vocals and keyboards, with bassist Moritz Bösing and drummer Leon Sennewald completing the lineup.

Known for their yearning, hymn-like songs and heartfelt German lyrics, Provinz broke through with their 2020 debut album and reached number two on the German charts with their second album, also titled Zorn & Liebe, in 2022.

On this track they team up with Nina Chuba, one of Germany's biggest pop stars, who rose to fame with her viral hit "Wildberry Lillet." Her voice trades off with Provinz across the song, giving the duet its push and pull between anger and love.
