Truchas — Alert / Sharp

Truchas literally translates to 'trouts', but in Mexican slang it is a highly popular way to describe someone who is 'alert', 'sharp', or 'on their toes'.

In the song, Peso Pluma sings "Sigo bien truchas haciendo negocios" (I stay very sharp doing business) to highlight his street smarts and focus. Mastering colorful local slang like this is a fantastic way to sound much more natural and expressive when speaking Spanish.

In "Rosa Pastel," Mexican singer Peso Pluma teams up with Jasiel Nuñez for a fast-paced corrido tumbado full of ambition, hustling, and street pride. The narrator makes it clear right away that youth does not equal weakness: "De poco edad, pero bien listo" ("Young in age, but very clever"). He credits his late father with shaping his mindset, giving a shout-out to "el boss que está junto a Dios" ("the boss who is next to God") and using those early lessons to expand his operations across the globe, claiming "Allá por Ámsterdam la muevo yo" ("Over in Amsterdam is where I move it"). To say he stays alert, he uses the classic Mexican slang "bien truchas" (literally "like a trout," meaning sharp and watchful).

The track is packed with colorful regional expressions and vivid smuggler imagery. When business goes well, the lyrics switch to Colombian slang like "mi parcera" ("my friend" or "my partner") and the encouraging push "mijo hágale pues" ("son, go ahead and do it"). The title itself comes to life when offering "una onza de Rosa Pastel" ("an ounce of Pastel Pink"), pairing high-stakes trade with casual party vibes. To describe the sheer scale of the operation, the track throws out a wild image: small planes delivering cargo "como si fueran un supermercado" ("as if they were a supermarket"). It wraps mentors from the Amazon rainforest alongside street wisdom, sticking to one simple rule: work hard, stay patient, and secure the win.

Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija was born in Zapopan, Jalisco in 1999, grew up in Guadalajara, and taught himself guitar at fifteen off YouTube tutorials. As Peso Pluma he sings corridos tumbados: Sinaloan sierreño guitars underneath, the cadence and swagger of hip hop on top. His voice is a thin nasal rasp nobody would call pretty, and in 2023 it made him the fifth most-streamed artist on Spotify worldwide.

He arrived through features, "El Belicón" with Raúl Vega and then "AMG" and "PRC" with Natanael Cano, before "Ella Baila Sola" with Eslabón Armado reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023, the first regional Mexican song ever inside that top 10. Génesis won Best Música Mexicana Album at the 2024 Grammys, and the 24-track double album Éxodo followed with Cardi B, Quavo and Rich the Kid along for the urbano half. He runs his own label, Double P Records, and closed 2025 with Dinastía, a joint album with his cousin Tito Double P that went straight to No. 1 on Top Latin Albums and filled 30 US arenas in 2026, Madison Square Garden included.
