desmadroso — rowdy / wild

Desmadroso is a colorful and informal Spanish adjective that describes someone who is wild, rowdy, or a troublemaker. It comes from the word "desmadre," which refers to chaos or a mess.

In the context of "La Melena," the lyric "Era desmadroso, se metía en problemas" (He was rowdy, he got into trouble) immediately paints a vivid picture of the protagonist's rebellious past. It's a word that captures a certain youthful energy and a disregard for rules, making it memorable and engaging for learners.

Peso Pluma gives us a look into a life of hustle and loyalty in "La Melena". He starts by telling us he's always been a risk-taker, someone who loves a thrill: "Era desmadroso, se metía en problemas, le encanta la adrenalina" (I was a troublemaker, got into trouble, I love adrenaline). But things have changed. Now, the focus is squarely on making money and holding on tight to the opportunities they have.

This isn't just a song about getting rich, though. There's a strong sense of looking out for his crew. He mentions missing his friends who are locked up, saying "Pronto saldrán del encierro" (Soon they'll get out of confinement). The title itself comes from a really interesting line: "La melena la dejamos por el león en cautiverio" (We left the long hair for the lion in captivity). It's a powerful image of sacrifice and respect for an imprisoned leader. He mixes these serious themes with flashes of his lifestyle, like cruising in San Diego, smoking a good joint, and repping brands from Culiacán, a city in Mexico known for this kind of culture.

Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija was born in Zapopan, Jalisco in 1999, grew up in Guadalajara, and taught himself guitar at fifteen off YouTube tutorials. As Peso Pluma he sings corridos tumbados: Sinaloan sierreño guitars underneath, the cadence and swagger of hip hop on top. His voice is a thin nasal rasp nobody would call pretty, and in 2023 it made him the fifth most-streamed artist on Spotify worldwide.

He arrived through features, "El Belicón" with Raúl Vega and then "AMG" and "PRC" with Natanael Cano, before "Ella Baila Sola" with Eslabón Armado reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023, the first regional Mexican song ever inside that top 10. Génesis won Best Música Mexicana Album at the 2024 Grammys, and the 24-track double album Éxodo followed with Cardi B, Quavo and Rich the Kid along for the urbano half. He runs his own label, Double P Records, and closed 2025 with Dinastía, a joint album with his cousin Tito Double P that went straight to No. 1 on Top Latin Albums and filled 30 US arenas in 2026, Madison Square Garden included.
