Höhenangst literally translates to "fear of heights" or "acrophobia". It's a compound word that vividly describes a specific phobia, making it interesting and memorable.
In the context of the song, Nina Chuba sings "Kopf drückt, habe Höhenangst" (Head hurts, I have a fear of heights). This line likely serves as a metaphor for the overwhelming pressure and anxiety she feels from her newfound fame and success. It suggests that despite reaching great heights in her career, she's struggling with the emotional toll and the fear of falling, making it a poignant and relatable image for listeners.
Alles Gleich captures the moment when a dream finally comes true… and still feels strangely familiar. Nina Chuba looks back on the journey from crying on public transport to shedding the same tears in a luxury ride-share, from hustling for any slice of hype to actually tasting fame. Money is rolling in, designer clothes are on, painkillers and smoke are always nearby, yet the emotional weight refuses to budge. Success changes the setting, not the feeling.
Below the catchy beat lies a confession: the small-town girl in the oversized hoodie is still searching for real happiness, worried she’s losing old friends while making no new ones. Even with bigger stages and brighter lights, her heart stays the same size and just as heavy. The song is a melodic reminder that you can swap the U-Bahn for an Uber, but if you don’t address what hurts inside, am Ende bleibt alles gleich – in the end, everything stays the same.
Nina Chuba is the stage name of Nina Katrin Kaiser, born in 1998 in Wedel, just outside Hamburg, Germany. Before music she was a child actor: from 2008 she played Nina Flynn, the youngest of the teen detectives in the long-running kids' series Die Pfefferkörner. She sang in the band Blizz and put out early solo tracks in English, collected on the 2020 EP Power.
Switching to German changed everything. "Wildberry Lillet" (2022), a deadpan wish list of luxuries, went to number one in Germany. Her debut album Glas (2023) also topped the charts and gave her more Top Ten hits with "Ich hass dich" and "Mangos mit Chilli". Her style mixes pop with rap delivery and a cool, slightly bored attitude that makes even her brag songs sound funny.
