Perdura comes from the verb perdurar, meaning 'to endure' or 'to last'. It's a beautiful and somewhat less common word than simply 'dura' (lasts), implying a deeper, more sustained, and resilient quality.
In "Primeras Veces," Morat sings about how love changes after the initial excitement of "first times." The line "Pero el amor que perdura no es siempre igual" (But the love that endures is not always the same) highlights the song's central theme: true love isn't just about newness, but about a lasting connection that evolves and withstands the test of time. This word perfectly encapsulates that profound idea.
Primeras Veces celebrates the thrill of a new romance while gently reminding us that lasting love goes far beyond fireworks. In the song, Morat compares early moments—the first kiss, the butterflies, the playful excitement—to light luggage on a short trip: wonderful, but destined to fade with time. Rather than mourning those fleeting sparks, the singer vows to keep love alive by choosing to stay, grow, and keep writing “a song that moves you the first and the last day.”
Morat’s message is both tender and realistic: feelings change, routine settles in, and chemistry alone cannot carry a relationship forever. What truly matters is the decision to remain, to adapt, and to turn every stage of love into music worth singing. In short, the track is a heartfelt promise that while las primeras veces will eventually leave, commitment and shared life will keep the melody playing.
The four of Morat met at school in Bogotá, Colombia, and were playing as Malta by late 2011, renamed before the first record. Juan Pablo Isaza sings and plays guitar, Juan Pablo Villamil plays the banjo that gives their pop its country tilt, and the Vargas brothers hold the bottom end, Simón on bass and Martín on percussion.
They broke out in 2015, first on Paulina Rubio's "Mi nuevo vicio" and then with their own "Cómo te atreves". Sobre el amor y sus efectos secundarios (2016) led to Balas perdidas (2018), a number one in Spain and Mexico with "Besos en guerra" alongside Juanes plus "No se va", which Grupo Frontera's 2022 cover turned into their most-streamed song. ¿A dónde vamos? (2021) and Si ayer fuera hoy (2022) followed, then Ya es mañana (2025), their first Latin Grammy winner, for Best Pop/Rock Album. Its tour opened with six nights at Bogotá's Movistar Arena in August 2026, and a May 2026 duet with Silvestre Dangond, "Lo poco que yo quiero", previews a second volume.
