Castigo means "punishment." It's a powerful, emotional word that you don't often find in romantic pop songs.
In "Cuando Nadie Ve," Morat describes a secret love affair. The singer calls it "nuestro castigo" (our punishment) to have to "fingir que somos amigos" (pretend that we are friends) in public. This word perfectly captures the bittersweet pain and central conflict of their hidden relationship.
Colombian folk-pop band Morat delivers an irresistibly catchy tune about a romance that only exists behind closed doors. The singer starts out dreaming of an eternal summer sparked by a single look, but things freeze over fast when he spots someone else holding the person he loves ("Cuando vi que otros brazos te esperaban" [When I saw that other arms were waiting for you]). Instead of walking away, he accepts a messy compromise: they will love each other exclusively in secret ("Nos queremos cuando nadie ve" [We love each other when nobody sees]).
What makes this track hit so hard is the sheer exhaustion of keeping up appearances in daylight. In public, they have to put on a show and pretend to be buddies ("Es nuestro castigo / Fingir que somos amigos" [It is our punishment / To pretend we are friends]). He even rehearses the outright lies he will tell if anyone asks about his feelings, insisting he will deny every dream and every bit of pain. It is a sharp look at the emotional cost of being someone's secret lover, wrapped in bright, energetic folk-pop rhythms.
The four of Morat met at school in Bogotá, Colombia, and were playing as Malta by late 2011, renamed before the first record. Juan Pablo Isaza sings and plays guitar, Juan Pablo Villamil plays the banjo that gives their pop its country tilt, and the Vargas brothers hold the bottom end, SimĂłn on bass and MartĂn on percussion.
They broke out in 2015, first on Paulina Rubio's "Mi nuevo vicio" and then with their own "Cómo te atreves". Sobre el amor y sus efectos secundarios (2016) led to Balas perdidas (2018), a number one in Spain and Mexico with "Besos en guerra" alongside Juanes plus "No se va", which Grupo Frontera's 2022 cover turned into their most-streamed song. ¿A dónde vamos? (2021) and Si ayer fuera hoy (2022) followed, then Ya es mañana (2025), their first Latin Grammy winner, for Best Pop/Rock Album. Its tour opened with six nights at Bogotá's Movistar Arena in August 2026, and a May 2026 duet with Silvestre Dangond, "Lo poco que yo quiero", previews a second volume.
