Deșert translates to "desert". While it's a common noun, its use in this song is particularly striking and metaphorical.
The lyrics ask, "Ce te faci când ai în piept, în locul inimii deșert?" which means, "What do you do when you have a desert in your chest instead of a heart?" This vivid imagery conveys a profound sense of emptiness, desolation, and emotional barrenness, making it a powerful and memorable word in the context of heartbreak.
Poor Heart of Mine captures the raw ache of a love that tore itself apart before it even had the chance to bloom. Mario Fresh paints a vivid picture of a chest that feels like a desert, where no soothing rain can fall and only loud inner battles echo. Each beat of the heart is a reminder of betrayal: whispered lies, broken promises, and the haunting presence of personal demons that make moving on feel like a lost cause.
Yet, in the middle of all that pain, the song finds a stubborn spark of life. The heart, no matter how shattered, still beats — wild, reckless and determined to be heard. This relentless rhythm hints at hope: even when love leaves scars, the pulse of resilience keeps pushing forward, daring the listener to believe that healing is possible, one heartbeat at a time.
Mario Fresh, born Mario Gălățanu in 1999 in Iași, Romania, is one of Romania's most popular young pop singers. He began singing as a child, encouraged by his grandmother, and competed in televised talent festivals before being discovered and mentored by established artist Alex Velea, who helped launch his career with the 2014 single "Am rămas cu gândul la tine."
In 2019 Mario co-founded the group Golden Gang alongside Alex Velea, Lino Golden, and Rashid, and he has since built a huge solo following with romantic pop ballads like "Săracă Inima Mea." His 2022 hit "Necesar" became one of Romania's biggest streaming successes, and he was named the country's most-streamed artist that year.
Mario continues to release new music and remains one of the most recognizable young voices in Romanian pop today.
