desahuciado — evicted / hopeless

Desahuciado is a powerful word with a double meaning. It literally translates to "evicted", as in being kicked out of a home, but it's also used to describe a medical patient who is "given up for lost" or is considered terminal.

In the song, the singer uses this word metaphorically to describe how he felt in the relationship: completely hopeless and cast aside. It's a dramatic and uncommon word that perfectly captures the feeling of utter devastation before he found the strength to move on.

If you have ever been stepped on in a relationship, this rock duet from Mexico's Maná and Christian Nodal is your ultimate comeback anthem. The narrator starts out totally crushed, reminding an ex that "me tenías pisoteado" ("you had me trampled") while "fuiste matando mis pasiones" ("you went around killing my passions"). He spent nights crying until the floor was soaked. But the tables finally turn with the line "este mundo ya giró" ("this world has turned around"), and now the power balance flips completely.

The chorus hits with pure satisfaction: "Bebé, te lloré todo un río... Ahora llórame un mar" ("Baby, I cried you an entire river... Now cry me a sea"). He even moved on to a "chula sirena" ("pretty mermaid") swimming on his skin. In Mexican Spanish, calling someone chula means cute or pretty, and pairing it with a mythical mermaid is a dramatic way of saying his new flame is out of this world. There is no going back here: he forgives the past, but his heart is officially closed for business.
