carnada — bait

Carnada translates to "bait," as in something used to lure or trap. It's an intriguing word because it's not commonly found in everyday song lyrics, making it stand out.

In the context of the song, the line "Antes que ser carnada, Mejor ser todo que no ser" (Before being bait, it's better to be everything than to not be) suggests a powerful message of agency and self-worth. It encourages listeners to be active participants in their lives rather than passive targets, adding a layer of depth to the song's meaning.

"KUSTURICA" by LOUTA is a song that tells you to keep moving even when nothing makes sense. The title is a nod to Emir Kusturica, the Serbian film director whose movies are famous for chaotic, joyful scenes full of brass bands, and the song has that same restless energy, opening and closing with a shouted count-in: "1,2,3,4".

Most of the lyrics are a list of reasons, each starting with para (in order to): "Para cambiar la cara, para saber qué hacer, para el dolor del alma" (to change your face, to know what to do, for the pain of the soul). The core idea comes in "Y aunque te duela todo, vas a bailar igual" (and even if everything hurts, you're going to dance anyway). Igual here is everyday Argentine Spanish for "anyway".

The chorus line "Mejor ser todo que no ser" (better to be everything than not to be) plays with Hamlet's famous question, and "Antes que ser carnada" (rather than being bait) means he would rather risk everything than be someone else's prey. My favourite bit is the funny, honest "Yo que no entiendo nada, te lo puedo explicar" (I, who understand nothing, can explain it to you). Then the advice gets simple: "Esto es como la vida, no te la vive nadie" (this is like life: nobody lives it for you).
