anhelando — longing / yearning

Anhelando comes from the verb anhelar, meaning to long for or yearn for something deeply. It's a more intense and poetic word than simply wanting something.

In the song, Kurt sings "Anhelando ser libre" (Longing to be free), expressing a profound desire for liberation. This word captures a powerful emotional state, making it both memorable and evocative in the context of the lyrics.

Kurt opens with the line that sets up the whole song: "No quiero crecer, siendo un niño era fácil" (I don't want to grow up, being a kid was easy), because now "todo está al revés" (everything's upside down). What gets him through it is one person. "Pero todo duele menos cuando estoy contigo" (but everything hurts less when I'm with you) answers every worry that follows, including the fear of losing what he actually thinks and feels just "por al mundo complacer" (to please the world). He says it plainly: "¿De qué sirve tanto miedo cuando estoy contigo?" (what's the use of so much fear when I'm with you?).

The chorus turns that fear into motion. He's "persiguiendo una estrella que al fin me vio" (chasing a star that finally saw me), giving flowers to his own heart, singing to love and to pain in the same line. Every chorus lands on the title: "en medio de este ruido" (in the middle of this noise), the noise being everyone else's expectations of who he's supposed to become. He never claims he's found quiet. He just says he's found someone to walk through the noise with.

Kurt Schmidt Ramos grew up in Culiacán, Mexico, where his father taught him his first guitar chords. He was writing his own songs by the time he was fifteen, and that childhood habit turned into a career in 2014, when he released his debut single, “Busco a Ella.”

The songs “Se Fuerte, Corazón” and “Vengo del Futuro” carried him toward his first full album, “En Medio de Este Ruido,” in 2019, and a Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist followed in 2020. His second album, “La Vida,” arrived in 2021 and earned him another nomination, for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, at the 2022 Latin Grammys. Kurt writes plainspoken, acoustic-leaning pop, the kind of songs that read like diary entries set to guitar.
