Equivocarme means 'for me to make a mistake' or 'to be wrong.' It's the verb equivocar (to mistake) combined with the reflexive pronoun me.
In this nostalgic song, the artist sings about wanting "la oportunidad de equivocarme una y mil veces" (the opportunity to make a mistake a thousand and one times). This beautifully captures the song's theme: a deep yearning for the freedom of youth, when making mistakes felt less like a failure and more like a part of life.
✨ 16 is a heartfelt postcard to the past. Kurt, joined by Luis Fonsi, looks back at the wide-eyed age of sixteen, when the world felt endless and mistakes were just part of the adventure. Over gentle guitars they replay sun-soaked afternoons, favorite records spinning, and that big, safe house that once seemed impossible to leave. A tender voicemail from Mom opens the song, instantly placing us in the space between who we were and who we are now.
Rather than simply mourning lost time, the lyrics ask a bigger question: Did I choose the right flight to happiness? They celebrate freedom, possibility, and the courage to dream before life piled on responsibilities. By the final chorus, the nostalgia becomes an invitation—listeners are encouraged to rediscover their own sixteen-year-old spark, dare to mess up, and believe in brighter days again.
Kurt Schmidt Ramos grew up in Culiacán, Mexico, where his father taught him his first guitar chords. He was writing his own songs by the time he was fifteen, and that childhood habit turned into a career in 2014, when he released his debut single, “Busco a Ella.”
The songs “Se Fuerte, Corazón” and “Vengo del Futuro” carried him toward his first full album, “En Medio de Este Ruido,” in 2019, and a Latin Grammy nomination for Best New Artist followed in 2020. His second album, “La Vida,” arrived in 2021 and earned him another nomination, for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, at the 2022 Latin Grammys. Kurt writes plainspoken, acoustic-leaning pop, the kind of songs that read like diary entries set to guitar.
