Insoumis means âunruly,â âunsubdued,â or âdefiant,â describing something that refuses to obey or be controlled. In the song, âmon sommeil mâest insoumisâ poetically means âmy sleep wonât obey me,â capturing the frustrating feeling of being unable to make yourself fall asleep.
Keen'V turns a sleepless night into a confession. Every evening the trouble starts the moment he lies down: "Dans le lit je danse seul, face à mes pensées" (In bed I dance alone, facing my thoughts). He wants to "mettre en veille" (switch off) his tangled thoughts, but "je n'peux combattre mes démons" (I can't fight my demons), and the hours tick by while he still can't close his eyes.
The chorus is a plea aimed at no one in particular: "Fais qu'elles s'en aillent" (Make them go away), these ideas "qui viennent me hanter la nuit" (that come to haunt me at night). He traces the insomnia back to the day he "opened his eyes to the world" and has never managed to close them since. By the bridge the night has turned to memories that "m'enivrent" (intoxicate me), and sorrow wears him down "jusqu'Ă en perdre la foi" (to the point of losing faith).
