Avesso literally means "inside out" or "reverse." It's an interesting word because it describes a state of being that is the opposite of normal.
In the song, the lyric "Normal e do avesso" (Normal and inside out) suggests a complex and multifaceted personality or situation. It hints at a deeper, perhaps contradictory, nature that is both familiar and surprising, making it a captivating word choice.
âSeis e Trintaâ invites us to wake up together at 6:30, that magical moment when night hands the sky over to day and everything feels possible. The singer looks at a partner and sees a mirror image: âPareço contigoâ (I look like you). Their bond is so strong that they choose to walk any road, even an uncertain one, as long as they do it side by side. The lyrics celebrate the small rituals of lifeâsitting at the table, dreaming with eyes closed, laughing at their own cluelessnessâwhile reminding us that love is the ultimate guide, demanding nothing in return.
Jota Questâs message is joyful and grounded: value life, welcome love, and let each sunrise be a fresh start. Whether in light or darkness, certainty or doubt, two hearts can turn an ordinary hour into a daily rebirth of hope, companionship, and simple happiness.
Jota Quest started out in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in 1993 under the name J. Quest, borrowed from the cartoon Jonny Quest. Trademark trouble with Hanna-Barbera made them spell the J out the Portuguese way, and they have been Jota Quest ever since. RogĂ©rio Flausino sings, with Marco TĂșlio Lara on guitar, PJ on bass, MĂĄrcio Buzelin on keyboards and Paulinho Fonseca on drums.
Their pop leans hard on funk and soul, and it has been all over Brazilian radio since the late 1990s with songs like "FĂĄcil", "Dias Melhores" and "Na Moral". Albums such as De Volta ao Planeta, OxigĂȘnio, La Plata and Funky Funky Boom Boom kept the run going, and the compilation Quinze won the 2012 Latin Grammy for Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album.
