AbstinĂȘncia means 'withdrawal' or 'abstinence', the kind someone experiences when they stop using an addictive substance.
In this song, IZA uses this powerful word metaphorically. She sings, "AbstinĂȘncia de mim" ('Withdrawal from me'), to describe how her ex feels after their breakup. She's so intoxicating that being without her love feels like a physical withdrawal, making this a very dramatic and memorable way to express an intense connection.
Brazilian pop and R&B powerhouse IZA knows she has got her partner hooked, and she is totally smug about it. In "Droga", she laughs off their threats to walk away. They get mad, swear they are leaving, but always sprint right back. Why? Because her kiss is an actual habit they cannot kick. IZA is one of Brazil's biggest pop and R&B stars, celebrated for her powerful voice and commanding stage presence. Born Isabela Cristina Correia de Lima Lima in Rio de Janeiro in 1990, she first built a following by posting covers of artists like Beyoncé, Rihanna and Sam Smith on YouTube.
