abîme — abyss

Abîme translates to "abyss" or "chasm". It's a strong and evocative word that paints a dramatic picture, making it more impactful than common synonyms for 'depth' or 'trouble'.

In the song, Hoshi sings, "Toi quand tu sombres dans l'abîme" (You when you sink into the abyss). This metaphor powerfully conveys a feeling of falling into deep despair or a dark, overwhelming situation, making it a memorable and emotionally resonant word choice.

This song feels like two people holding on to each other while the world falls apart. Hoshi sings to someone brave and loud: « Toi quand tu chantes, quand tu cries / La peur ne t'atteint pas » [You, when you sing, when you scream / Fear doesn’t reach you]. She promises, « je te suis / Qu'importe où tu iras » [I follow you / Wherever you go], like a friend or lover ready to walk through hell with them. Even when « l'enfer te défie » [hell challenges you], she believes that hell itself will remember them. It is dark, but also strangely romantic and loyal.

At the same time, they are very clear about one thing: they are not going to be famous heroes. The chorus admits, « Il est trop tard / Pour devenir des superstars » [It is too late / To become superstars]. Instead of chasing glory, they choose between « l'amour et le chaos » [love and chaos]. There is anxiety everywhere, with images like « Monde en arrêt respiratoire » [world in respiratory arrest] and « les deux pieds dans le vide » [both feet in the void]. But both voices keep reaching out: « Prends ma main, je t'en prie / Admirons le combat » [Take my hand, please / Let’s admire the fight] and later « Sur ma main, je t'en prie / Reprenons le combat » [On my hand, please / Let’s start the fight again]. The song is basically saying: we are late, the world is a mess, we are not stars, but if we stay together and keep choosing love, we can still face the chaos.
