Grupo Marca Registrada's "El Inocente" is a corrido that refuses to pick a side of its own narrator. He opens by offering up his own story — "¿Quieren que cuente mi historia? Con gusto yo se las cuento" ["Do you want me to hear my story? Gladly, I'll tell it to you"] — then spends the song describing a life built from nothing after moving to the city, where he drinks and smokes without calling himself an addict and shrugs off being "tratan como basura" ["treated like trash"] by recycling himself. Grupo Marca Registrada built itself around Fidel Castro, the Culiacán singer, songwriter and accordionist who started the group in 2013, with Luis Fernando Medina on drums, Fidel Jiménez on bass and Ángel Móndragon on guitar and backing vocals.
