arrepintió — regretted

Arrepintió comes from the verb arrepentirse, meaning 'to regret' or 'to repent'. It's a powerful verb that expresses deep emotion and reflection.

In this song, the singer confronts a past lover who has returned, asking, "¿O fue que ahora se arrepintió?" (Or was it that now you regretted it?). This word perfectly captures the central conflict and emotional tension of the song, suggesting the ex-lover might be regretting their past decision to leave.

Ever had an ex show up out of nowhere just as your life finally got good? That is the exact moment Grupo Frontera and Mister Chivo unpack in "¿Qué Haces Por Acá?". The singer spots an old flame coming back in tears, only to hit them with pure honesty: "Que raro verte de nuevo por acá llorando / Ahora que me ves sonriendo con un nuevo amor" ("How strange to see you around here crying again / Now that you see me smiling with a new love"). There is zero interest in taking them back because someone else already erased the past: "Los besos que dejaste, otra boca me los borró" ("The kisses you left behind, another mouth wiped them away").

The track is brutally direct about moving on. In Spanish, when someone shows up uninvited, people sarcastically ask "¿Qué se te perdió?" (literally "What did you lose?", meaning "What are you doing here?"). The chorus runs with that shade, asking "¿Qué fue lo que se le perdió? ¿Qué fue lo que se le olvidó? ¿O fue que ahora se arrepintió?" ("What did you lose? What did you forget? Or is it that you regret it now?"). The singer admits that he once believed he would die without them, but those cold nights are gone for good thanks to someone new who brings peace instead of pain.

Grupo Frontera were playing weddings and parties around Edinburg, Texas, deep in the Rio Grande Valley, when a TikTok clip of their cover of Morat's "No Se Va" got away from them in 2022. The five of them are Adelaido "Payo" Solís III on lead vocals, Juan Javier Cantú on accordion, Alberto "Beto" Acosta on bajo quinto, Julian Peña Jr. on congas and Carlos Guerrero on drums. What they play is norteño sitting on a cumbia backbeat: miserable lyrics at a tempo you can dance to.

"Bebe Dame" with Fuerza Regida took them to No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs, and "un x100to" with Bad Bunny went to No. 5 on the Hot 100 and won the 2023 Latin Grammy for Best Regional Mexican Song. Their debut album El Comienzo won Best Norteño Album the year after, followed by Jugando a Que No Pasa Nada in 2024 and Lo Que Me Falta Por Llorar in 2025. Shakira called them in for "(Entre Paréntesis)", Maluma for "Por Qué Será" and Carín León for "Que Vuelvas". In 2026 they took two Grammy nominations for Best Música Mexicana Album.
